Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi quits from T20I captaincy, but will continue as a player. Earlier, Afridi said he would retire after losing the match to Australia in the World T20. Under Afridi’s captaincy, Pakistan has won only one match and a defeat to India at the Eden Gardens had not gone well with Pakistan Cricket Board. PCB said they would sack Afridi from is captaincy.He released a statement on behalf of his future activities for Pakistan cricket. “Today I wish to inform my fans in Pakistan and all over the world that I am relinquishing my captaincy for the T20 Pakistani team of my own volition.”
He also said, “It was an honour to lead my country in all formats of the game.” He also grateful to Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Shahryar Khan. The 36-year-old veteran cricketer said, “My profound thanks to the PCB and its chairman Mr, Shahryar Khan Sb. who gave me the honour to lead the national team.”Afridi also confirmed that he will play as a cricketer for the national team and in domestic leagues. ” I intend to continue to play the game for my country and league cricket.”
Afridi made his international cricket debut in 1996. He was expected to retire after playing 20 years of international cricket. He has won the 2009 ICC World T20 for Pakistan in England.He made his T20 in 2006 against England. Since then he played 98 T20Is and scored 1405 runs and took 97 wickets. He also captained Pakistan in all three formats. In 2011 World Cup he led the Pakistan side while in 2014 and 2016 World T20 he led the men in green.
